FISHMINGO

This is from an OAC topic posted a few weeks ago. My first version of this was absolutely horrifying. Click here if you want to see my first attempt. I was just trying to stay loose and go with the idea of combining a fish and flamingo - which in reality may not be a very pretty creature. After the first try, I decided to try a design that would be more whimsical and appealing.

It's interesting to see your first attempt. I like the brushwork in it, but I have to admit, it is a little CREEPY! Thanks for sharing!! ^.^

You've got such graphic style. You're backgrounds set your stuff apart so I know that it's you without seeing a name. Nicely done. I'm also diggin' they personality and character that the Fishmingo (Flamingish?) had with minimal detail. I'll take two of the pink ones for my backyard. The ones in the back look like they may bite, and I have kids playing back there. Take it easy!.

Wow - big difference. Thanks for sharing Dave. Creepy is the right word with that fish face in the original but I do like seeing the brush strokes and general treatment of it all.

Interesting to see the mental gears switch.

Of course, me being who I am, I like the original, discarded version because he looks like he HATES being a fishmingo and doesn't like the fact that he's being looked at. Creepy isn't always a bad thing... it created that rich subtext in my head. But that's my problem, not yours and I'm going to see a therapist immediately.
